Revisioning eye surgeries at Delta Hospital

March 4, 2026 | Auxiliary volunteers recently had the opportunity to see firsthand how equipment funded by DHAS is supporting patient care. On March 3, Dr. David Fine demonstrated the ophthalmic microscope purchased with funds raised by DHAS volunteers. The surgical microscope is used in delicate eye procedures, including cataract surgeries and other vision-related operations, providing magnified, high-resolution visualization that enables precision and better patient outcomes. Dr. Fine and his team perform more than 1,000 cataract surgeries each year at Delta Hospital.

Dr. Fine met with DHAS volunteers Carolyn Dodds, Sandra Idema, and Karen Robinson, along with DHAS President Maureen Mooney, DHAS Vice President Katy Ellsworth, Director of Operations Banafshe Namazi, and Jodi Stokes, Director of Legacy and Leadership Giving at  the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation.

“I was thrilled to learn more about the ophthalmic microscope,” says DHAS President Maureen Mooney. “Our volunteers work incredibly hard to raise funds for the Delta Hospital Campus of Care, and it is gratifying to see a tangible result of that effort. We are delighted to have contributed to surgical enhancements at our hospital.”
