May 2, 2026 | Message to our community,
We are aware of the comments and questions circulating on social media regarding the Thrift Shop, and we understand that people care deeply about this organization and the volunteers who make it what it is. That commitment is something we value and share.
As a registered society, DHAS is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors with fiduciary responsibilities under the Societies Act. A core part of that responsibility is ensuring a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all volunteers, staff and the community.
When concerns were raised about the workplace environment and formal complaints were made, the Board had a duty to take those matters seriously. An independent HR review was initiated, and that process is ongoing.
Because this involves individuals and a formal process, we are not able to share details or comment on specific situations. It is important to be clear that confidentiality is not about avoiding questions—it is about upholding a fair and respectful process and protecting the privacy of those involved.
Our focus remains where it has always been—supporting the Delta Hospital Campus of Care and fostering a safe, respectful environment for the volunteers and staff who make that possible.
We are working toward reopening the Thrift Shop as soon as we can do so responsibly and with the appropriate supports in place.
We ask for patience, respect, and a shared commitment to the values that have guided this organization for more than 50 years. If you have questions, please review our FAQ.
