I am pleased to be your newly-elected President. I am looking forward to two years working with a committed board and many of you to determine the successful use of the funds raised by our various units. It will be exciting to see the beginning of the hospital renovations very
I’d like to thank Robbi Schultes, our Past President, for her recent two years of dedicated service on Auxiliary Council and for her commitment to continue publishing our regular newsletters. Watch for our newly designed website which will be launched soon, and invite friends to do some shopping at the Thrift Shop when it is open on Market Sundays.
We don’t anticipate major changes in the way the units are working this year. Lifeline keeps up to date with technological changes in their service; the Gift Shop has had a fashion show to encourage more shopping there; the Thrift Shop has been busy with the spring donations and collectible sales; the Café continues to be a popular lunch spot, and the Communication and Office units are busy.
At the April AGM it was inspiring to see people receive recognition for varied years of service with our Auxiliary. Clearly, many of our volunteers continue for many years raising money for Delta Hospital. I hope that we will have a period of sunny days soon, yet even in the summer many of you will be working as usual. This is really appreciated!
Bursary Winners 2017
Every year the Auxiliary gives bursaries in the amount of $1,500 each to six Delta students going on to post secondary education in the health care field. Two staff members are also awarded $1,000 each towards upgrading their qualifications.
An event for the Bursary Awards was held in the Courtyard on June 8. After the presentations Auxiliary Council members had a chance to meet with the students, staff and their families while enjoying refreshments and a special Congratulations Cake in the Courtyard Café. This year’s student recipients are Caitlin Brown, Senja Lieuwen, Meghan Lindsay, Vishnupriya Manackadath, Hamsini Venkatramani, and Zahresh Walji. Staff members awarded bursaries are Mandeep Garha and Rajwant Ghuman.
Dogwood Gift Shop
The Auxiliary’s Dogwood Gift Shop recently held a well attended and very successful Fashion Show in the Courtyard at Delta Hospital. New clothing, purses and jewelry for summer were modelled by Gift Shop volunteers while the audience enjoyed refreshments. If you missed it, you can attend later in the year when they plan to hold a Fall and Winter Fashion Show. Watch for details.
In the meantime join us for the Gift Shop’s Clearance Sale on August 21 & 22 in the Courtyard from 9—4pm both days.
